Zithromax
Zithromax (azithromycin) is a medicine that belongs to the class of macrolide antibiotics and works to help your body battle the infection by making the bacteria weaker. It should be used for as long as recommended, as stopping the treatment before it’s time can lead to a relapse of the infection. If you have a history of an allergic reaction to this or any of the following medicines that are similar to Zithromax in action, you are not supposed to start taking it at all. A history of an allergic reaction to the following drugs may prevent you from safely taking Zithromax: erythromycin, telithromycin, troleandomycin, and clarithromycin. The usual recommendation is to take Zithromax on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours before having a meal. Make sure you do not take it for some viral infection, as it is not going to be efficient in that case. This medicine is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby, but it is not known whether it can pass into breast milk. It’s important that you talk to your health care provider before starting to take this medication and discuss all the aspects of your treatment to make sure the benefits outweigh potential risks. Make sure you use a reliable contraceptive throughout the entire period of taking Zithromax and remember that this drug can make your hormonal contraceptives less effective. Your health care provider is supposed to know your full medical history before prescribing Zithromax, including any of the following health conditions you have ever been diagnosed with: myasthenia gravis, a history of Long QT syndrome, a heart rhythm disorder, liver disease, and kidney disease. Some of these conditions may affect the dose you are prescribed, or your health care provider may recommend having additional tests done to establish the safety of this medicine and its efficiency of your particular situation. Seek emergency medical attention if you have taken too much of this medicine especially if you experience such symptoms as vomiting, stomach discomfort, diarrhea, and nausea. Make sure you always throw away any medicine that is past its expiration date, as otherwise damage to the kidneys is possible. Although this medicine is usually tolerated very well, a few side effects are still possible. The following side effects are possible when you start taking doxycycline, although they are not expected to last for too long: ringing in your ears, vomiting, dizziness, headache, mild itching, stomach pain, decreased sense of taste, diarrhea, mild nausea, insomnia, skin rash, and constipation. A missed dose of Zithromax is not supposed to be taken if you have to take another one soon. If you remembered about it soon enough – you can always take it then. Never share this medication with other people to whom it was not prescribed and make sure to store it in some place where it will not be accessed by others. If you have any questions or something is not clear about your treatment – do not hesitate to contact your health care provider or your pharmacist.
